The stringent body of an overseas container is at the centre of the work “Unfamiliar Image” of the artist BASE23 here. In his creative exploration, the metal box is broken up and through by his built, three-dimensional abstract forms. When looking at the sculpture, the distinctive lines and visual structure of the container dissolve.
Through painted quotations of temporally conditioned traces of the existing material and modelled forms made of wood, which are colour-matched to the container, as well as through the possibility of different viewing angles, seeing is irritated and opens up a multitude of perspectives. Thinking "out of the box" is given visual emphasis here. It is about leaving limitations behind, questioning learned structures and finding new ways of seeing. All this is reflected in the sculpture "Unfamiliar Image" and makes viewers look a few times more than usual.
In terms of content, BASE23 sees the container as an abstract symbol of the visions of his own ego, the will of the creative urge, his visual ideas and the artistic implementation of these.
