“On Display”
BASE23`s work references the aesthetics of broken and crashed LCD displays from smartphones, laptops and tablets. As references he uses images from the internet and photos of broken devices sent by friends.
The work deals with the question of how we perceive our environment, habitat and also art, when we are living most of our lives through a screen. However, he is not concerned with pointing the finger, but rather commenting on what is happening irritated by a broken display. He combines the accidental aesthetic of the randomness of broken displays with his unique graphic language, thus creating irritated pictures and compositions based on events that cannot be exactly replicated.
The title is intentionally ambiguously chosen to represent the difference between perception in one place and on screen. The titles of the artworks refer to quotes from classifieds and forums in the internet. As a side project to the exhibition, he has increasingly worked outside to further develop and expand his own artistic language. The work on Hall of Fames and demolition sites in Berlin often deals with the topic he has chosen.
